“Evonik Divests Carbon Black Business to Orion Engineered Carbon”

Earlier this year, Evonik Industries signed an agreement to divest their global carbon black activities to affiliates of Rhone Capital LLC, a private investment firm.  The sale was completed July 31, 2011.  Effective August 1, 2011, the new name will be Orion Engineered Carbons.

The divestiture of the carbon black business affects the complete portfolio of carbon black pigments, pigment black preparations and masterbatches, including products sold under trade names such as:

Arosperse, HiBlack, Nerox, Printex, Colour Black, Lamp Black, Special Black, Panther, N grades, Sable.

Effective on the closing date, all activities associated with these products are now owned and operated independently from Evonik Industries.  All sales, development, production, and marketing functions have continued seamlessly through and after the closing.

The William B. Tabler Company will continue to serve as your less-than-truckload distributor and primary point of contact for all sales and technical issues relating to these carbon black products within our assigned territory.

Our goal is to make this transition of ownership as smooth as possible for everyone involved and we welcome your questions and comments.  We will work diligently to meet your demands and look forward to supplying your future needs for these carbon blacks.

Reichhold AQ Resins Combine Regulatory Compliance and Performance

Reichhold’s new AQ resin platform continues to prove itself in a wide variety of applications.  The AQ products are a series of low VOC alkyd latex resins which take alkyd chemistry and emulsify it in water.  The result is a unique combination of alkyd performance with regulatory compliance.  The AQ products can be used for applications from stains to metal primers and Reichhold continues to develop and introduce new AQ products for other markets.

The current lineup of products includes:

  • AQ-101 long oil alkyd for wood stains with excellent penetration. AQ-101 has proved itself in both interior wood and exterior deck stains.
  • AQ-205 medium oil alkyd for wood primers with enamel holdout
  • AQ-206 medium oil alkyd for architectural and light duty industrial enamels with excellent speed of dry.
  • AQ-210 medium oil chain stopped alkyd for industrial metal primers with corrosion resistance. Performance in primers rivals that of traditional water-reducible alkyds.
  • AQ-510 acrylic modified alkyd for high solids semi-gloss on wood. In addition, an excellent choice for blacktop/asphalt topcoats.
  • AQ 520 epoxy modified alkyd for concrete/paver "wet look".
